“This service is brilliant. I don’t understand computers, but STN feels like having a secretary doing all the online stuff for me. It’s such a relief!” – D.P
D.P is a 56-year-old Caribbean man living in Enfield who has both learning and physical disabilities. When he came to us, he was facing eviction and didn’t know where to turn. He found it difficult to navigate council systems and couldn’t access digital services. After struggling to get help through the homeless department at the library, he reached out to Stand Together Network.
We supported D.P from the start—explaining the housing process in clear, simple terms and, with his permission, contacting the council on his behalf. In the middle of this process, the council offered him temporary accommodation far outside the borough. D.P was very distressed by this. He explained how important it was for his health and wellbeing to stay close to familiar surroundings, his support network, and the few people he trusted.
We stepped in and helped him challenge the decision. We supported him through the process of requesting alternative accommodation, highlighting his support needs and the risks of isolation. As a result, the council agreed to accommodate him within the borough, near his family and community—somewhere he felt safe and supported.
We also helped D.P apply for the housing register and completed the pension credit process on behalf of his brother. As part of his journey toward greater independence, D.P joined our Skills for Work programme, where he gained vocational qualifications, updated his CV, and received one-to-one job brokerage support. He continues to work with us as he looks for a job that suits his needs and strengths.
