AA: Support After Eviction and Serious Illness

“Thank you to my advisor. STN stayed with me through a very difficult time—my health problems and facing eviction. They found me a place to stay and helped me get all the support and benefits I needed. Thank you again.”

AA is a vulnerable man living in North London. While renting a room in a shared house (HMO), he was suddenly hospitalised after suffering a stroke and undergoing two major operations linked to hypercoagulation (excessive blood clotting) and hypertension.

While still recovering in hospital, AA was served an eviction notice by his private landlord. With nowhere to go after discharge, he was at serious risk of becoming street homeless.

That’s when we stepped in.

AA faces both language and digital barriers, which made it even harder for him to access support or complete essential paperwork. We helped him every step of the way—filling in complex forms, making applications, and advocating on his behalf.

We contacted the council’s homelessness team and secured emergency temporary accommodation. We also referred him to Adult Social Care to ensure he had the medical and community support needed.

Over the following weeks, we worked closely with AA to stabilise his situation:

  • Helped him fill out all the necessary forms, applications, and letters
  • Applied for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and supported his Work Capability Assessment
  • Helped him obtain a GP fit note and apply for a Freedom Pass
  • Supported his homelessness application and got him added to the housing register
  • Liaised with the local MP and housing officer to escalate his case
  • Applied for a Disability-Related Expenditure (DRE) payment
  • Ensured he received all his benefit entitlements
  • Connected him with a legal advisor for long-term housing support

Through multiple interventions, AA moved from crisis to stability. He is now in safe accommodation and in a much stronger position—physically, financially, and emotionally.
