“This service is brilliant. I don’t understand computers, but STN feels like having a secretary doing all the online stuff for me. It’s such a relief!” – D.P
D.P is a 60-year-old Caribbean man living in Enfield. He has both learning and physical disabilities, and was facing eviction with nowhere to turn. Struggling to get the help he needed from the council’s homelessness services—especially at the library—and unable to access digital platforms, D.P felt overwhelmed and alone.
That’s when he came to Stand Together Network (STN).
We took time to explain the housing process in simple terms, and with his permission, we contacted the council on his behalf. D.P was placed in temporary accommodation, and we supported him to apply for the housing register as someone in a priority need group. We also helped him secure an allocated adult social worker.
Due to D.P’s digital barriers, we continued to assist him with filling out forms, submitting documents, and staying updated with his case. His first temporary accommodation was in very poor condition—mouldy, with broken windows, a damaged kitchen and bathroom, and unsafe living conditions. On top of that, his neighbour’s anti-social behaviour, including heavy cannabis use, was seriously affecting D.P’s health.
We intervened on his behalf, negotiated with the council, and successfully advocated for a move to more suitable accommodation. He is now living in a safer, cleaner, and quieter environment where he can finally feel settled.
