This is the same course some people call TAQA or CAVA.  It is the course that has replaced the old A1 assessor course.

Awarding body: Training Qualifications UK (TQUK) Regulated by Ofqual

Certificate Achieved: Upon completion of this level 3 course, you will gain a recognised Ofqual and qualification as an assessor or vocational trainer.  This will give you access to more career opportunities with the lifelong learning sector.

Guided learning Hours:  GLH for this qualification is 54-84 hours and 3-6 months for full duration

Who is this course for?

The Level 3 Certificate is suitable for learners who want to work or have just started working as an assessor or trainer. It is those wanting a short course to develop their knowledge and skills in assessing both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment).

Study method/format

This course is part time, self-paced, distance learning, blended delivery of assessment, observation and tutorial.

Entry requirement:

There are no specific entry requirements however

  • Minimum Age 18 and more
  • Be competent in your field, the subject you want to assess
  • Level 2 written and spoken English (Equivalent to GCSE A-C)
  • This is a work-based course that requires two candidates to assess where they will be observed by their assessor

Description

The structure of the course includes an induction workshop where you will learn about the theory and under-pinning knowledge of working as an assessor. The induction is also for the purpose of letting you know how the course will be assessed and an opportunity for you to ask questions. Once you have completed the theory and are ready for the practical part of the course, you will prepare, plan and conduct assessments with your two candidates. Your allocated assessor will support you during your assessor journey with your own two candidates.

This course enables the student to understand how to assess competence in the work and classroom environment as well as teaching them the practices and principles of assessment. The course has three mandatory units as listed below:

Unit 1 – Understanding the principles and practice of assessment (3 credits)

This is the foundation of the course as it will equip you with all the knowledge and understanding you need to become a very good Assessor. You will use these principles and practices throughout your career as an Assessor.

Unit 2 – Assess occupational competence in the work environment (6 credits)

This is the final unit of this course where you will learn how to practically assess learners within a work environment following approved standards and criteria and using valid methods of assessment.

Unit 3 – Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding (6 credits)

This is the final unit of this course where you will learn how to practically assess learners within a classroom environment following approved standards and criteria and using valid methods of assessment designed for classroom assessment.

Assessments

This is a portfolio-based qualification, you need to complete all the coursework and your work will be assessed by your personal tutor and assessor and give you feedback on written assignments and using variety of different assessment methods such as observations, professional discussions, evidence products and you need to pass all the assignments and observation to achieve the full qualification framework.

  • You will be assessed through a series of questions to assess your knowledge
  • Unit 2 will be assessed through you practically assessing learners in a work environment and producing the evidence through work products
  • Unit 3 will be assessed through you practically assessing learners in a classroom environment and producing the evidence through work products
  • You will also be observed for unit 2 and 3
  • The course is delivered and assessed online using our e-portfolio system, you will have access to a workbook with everything needed to complete, as well as Tutorial videos. Your Assessor can also be contacted via email or telephone for support.
  • The qualification is assessed by internally set and marked assessments subject to external quality assurance.
  • All learning outcomes must be met to achieve a Pass – there is no grading.
