Elder abuse can be:<\/span><\/p>

  • Physical<\/b> \u2013 hitting, pushing, inappropriate restraint<\/span><\/li>
  • Emotional<\/b> \u2013 bullying, threats, name-calling, manipulation<\/span><\/li>
  • Financial<\/b> \u2013 theft, fraud, misuse of pensions or benefits<\/span><\/li>
  • Neglect<\/b> \u2013 failure to provide basic needs like food, medication, hygiene or warmth<\/span><\/li>
  • Sexual<\/b> \u2013 any non-consensual sexual activity or inappropriate touching<\/span><\/li>
  • Institutional<\/b> \u2013 poor or abusive practices in care homes, hospitals or services<\/span><\/li>
  • Digital<\/b> \u2013 online scams, manipulation or control using technology<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

    • A carer withholding medication or rough handling<\/span><\/li>
    • A family member pressuring an older person to transfer money or property<\/span><\/li>
    • Ignoring personal hygiene needs or leaving someone in soiled clothes<\/span><\/li>
    • Isolating someone from their friends, faith group or social activities<\/span><\/li>
    • Dismissing medical concerns or gaslighting (\u201cYou\u2019re confused again\u201d)<\/span><\/li>
    • Preventing someone from using their phone, bank card, or mobility aids<\/span><\/li>
    • Forcing an older person into unwanted care arrangements or decisions<\/span><\/li>
    • Exploiting technology to monitor or restrict communication<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

      • Unexplained bruises, burns, or injuries<\/span><\/li>

        Elder abuse is a violation of human rights and is recognised under UK safeguarding laws, including:<\/span><\/p>

        • Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006<\/b><\/li>
        • Human Rights Act 1998<\/b><\/li>
