What Is Coercive Control?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Coercive control is when an abuser uses threats, humiliation, manipulation, or intimidation to strip away a person\u2019s freedom. It may look like control over money, relationships, appearance, or access to food, work, or transport.<\/span><\/p>

This abuse can occur in intimate partnerships or within families. It is <\/span>a crime<\/b> under UK law, and perpetrators can be prosecuted.<\/span><\/p>

You may be experiencing coercive control if someone:<\/span><\/p>

  • Stops you from seeing friends or family<\/span><\/li>
  • Monitors your phone, social media, or daily movements<\/span><\/li>
  • Controls what you wear, where you go, or when you sleep<\/span><\/li>
  • Puts you down constantly or tells you you\u2019re worthless<\/span><\/li>
  • Controls all the money and gives you little or no access<\/span><\/li>
  • Prevents you from working, studying, or using transport<\/span><\/li>
  • Forces you to take part in criminal activities<\/span><\/li>
  • Threatens to harm you, your children, or your pets<\/span><\/li>
  • Threatens to share private images or personal information<\/span><\/li>
  • Forces or coerces you into sex or unwanted acts<\/span><\/li><\/ul>
