threatened, or forced into.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>forced marriage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is when one or both people do not\u2014or cannot\u2014freely give their consent to a marriage. This can happen through <\/span><b>physical threats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>emotional pressure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><b>abuse<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and can take place either <\/span><b>in the UK or abroad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forced marriage is not the same as an arranged marriage. In an arranged marriage, families may help find a match, but both people <\/span><b>freely agree<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to marry.
